I just wanted to thank everyone who has donated to this worthy cause. Even though the walk here in Atlanta is over, the fight against Breast Cancer is not. Please consider a small donation to this fight as we approach the Christmas season. We all have a lot to be grateful for !
Atlanta Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk
We will find a cure!
A bit of a setback
Update: Doctor said I should not walk 60 miles in a weekend. Kristi is talking to the folks at the 3-Day to see if there is a possibility for someone to substitute in my place. Fingers crossed….
Of course, the foundation will get the donations whether not I walk or not, but for the sake of the team, I hope a substitution can be made.
Looks like my focus is now on next year…. life goes on.
Words of Encouragement
Thank You so much for all the support in this cause. We’re now down to the wire. I need to raise approx $800 in the next week (Oct 18 - Oct 24) in order to walk. Any donations in my name will of course go directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, whether I walk or not, but I sure would rather be “in the fight” and show my solidarity by walking.
If your reading this and can help in this final push, please see the rest of the blog, then go to http://www.atlanta3day.com to do a secured online donation.
Thanks Again….. now back to the sprint to the finish line.
Disco Night at the Lake
The Cocunut Cutties (that’s the name of our team for the 3 day walk) sponsored a disco night at our neighborhood clubhouse this past Saturday night. We raised over $1400 for the cure! You can’t help but have a good time when your surrounded by good people who come together for a worthwhile cause.
We had several silient auctions, two of which contained tickets to a future Atlanta Falcons game. Did you see the Falcons play Chicago last night? Go Falcons!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most of the team was present, including our guest of honor. One of our dear neighbors, Lauri was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. When we first walked last year, we had no idea that this disease would hit so close to home. This year we walk with Lauri and her family in our hearts and in our prayers.
BTW…Big kudos go out to the whole team and especially Kristi for spearheading this fundraiser.
Check out a few of the pictures from this event…
Is there someone you would like me to walk for?
If you are donating on behalf of someone you know who has or had Breast Cancer, please include their name in your donation information and if you care to share, please let me know about them by emailing me at gina(at)forteagle(dot)com.
I would love for you to email me and share a little bit about them. With your permission, I would like to share your story and any pictures you care to send.
Last year our team also printed t-shirts with the names of those who we were walking for. Here is picture of that….
I walk so others may live!
My name is Gina Hughey.
This October I will be participating in a very special event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day. I will walk 60 miles over the course of three days with thousands of other women and men. The net proceeds will support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment through Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
In order for me to participate in this amazing and somewhat insane event, I must raise a minimum of $2,200. As of this post I have approx $1000 (The official donation page only shows $102 at this time). So I need your help. Please consider making a tax deductible donation. You may make the donation on the website at www.Atlanta3Day.com. This link will redirect you to the secured donation page operated by the Susan G. Komen organization. There is a link in the middle of the page labeled ‘Donate To Gina”. Click on this link and follow the simple instructions for donating safely and securely.
Keep in mind the challenges I will have to face during those three days. Twenty miles of walking each day, sleeping in a tent, porta potties, no hair dryer, blisters on the feet, etc., etc. It will all be worth it in the end.
According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, approximately 200,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and nearly 40,000 will die from the disease. That is why I will be walking so far, to do something bold about breast cancer. I hope that you will share in this incredible event with me - by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.
Please consider a donation to help find a cure to this disease. You can make a donation (using a secure connection) directly to the Susan G. Komen fund by Clicking Here.
Thank You so much for any size donation to help fight this terrible disease!
